Ending the COVID-19 concession period and other changes

November 25, 2023

The COVID-19 concession period will cease on 25 November 2023. The former Australian Government implemented temporary measures related to an initial concession period. This was to provide concessions for applicants of certain visa subclasses affected by travel restrictions and which made it difficult for them to meet visa requirements. We outline the changes below.

Third Working Holiday visa

From 01/07/2019, holders of a second Working Holiday visa (subclass 417) or Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) are able to apply for a third 417 or 462 if work is carried out in Regional Australia.‍

This culminated in the termination of the 457 visa program in March 2018 and the introduction of a new Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, subclass 482 in place of the 457 visa category.
